JUNIORS
The role of the Glenelg District Cricket Club junior program is to identify, train and develop young cricketers within the Glenelg district to a level that will allow them to progress to play senior cricket for the club, the State and ultimately for Australia.
CLUB PHILOSOPHY
The future of the Glenelg District Cricket Club, as with any club, lies in the hands of the junior players and coaches. To ensure continued strength and success, the club must continue to foster and encourage the development of its junior players. Everyone involved at junior level must see the larger picture and take pride in seeing a junior player go on and succeed at the senior level even though this may affect the success of a junior team. It is the responsibility of the senior club and senior coach to educate all at the junior level regarding the overall Club philosophy and policy toward juniors. Junior players will and should be given opportunities based on potential alone. It is then the Club's responsibility to make sure this potential is realised with the player continuing to develop and playing at the highest level achievable. Senior and junior players must work together to become a united strong and successful club.
CLUB JUNIORS
The Club fields 6 junior teams in the various SACA competitions, namely " one Ray Sutton Shield team " two Under 14 teams " two Under 16 teams " one Under 17 SA Bank Shield team In addition the club will field one team in the South-Central Sunday morning Under 13 competition.
The establishment of this competition followed several meetings with various non-SACA clubs to enhance relationships and with a view to establishing additional cricket competitions to increase the number of junior participants and provide opportunities for players to play in a competition commensurate with their abilities. The club intends to use this competition to provide an avenue for some of the more talented Year 5 and Year 6 players (generally Under 12) in the area to play a more competitive style of cricket than is currently offered by the schools. It is hoped that these players will provide the nucleus of the next year's Ray Sutton Shield team. This competition will provide the opportunity for the club to identify potential talent and develop good working relationships with other Clubs and to foster cricket in our zone for the benefit of all junior players. The Club has endeavoured to have all junior games played on turf pitches where possible to expose players to the vagaries of wickets at an early stage and prepare them for senior cricket. Over recent years the Under 14 teams have been forced to play on hard wickets.
In season 2005/06 the club will enter an Under 13 girls team to play in the SACA's Scorpions competition .
